Angel Policy Links

If you want to sell your creations you need to know which products you can use without breaking any copyrights you need to refer to the company "Angel Policy" (these are legally binding policies so to break them is breaking the law), and what the rules are for using those products. This list is for my own benefit as a quick reference with links to the policies, and might help others.

Here is a better explanation of Angel Policies and what they are all about and there is another explanation here, and a load of stuff on crafts and copyright here.

Initially I started printing them but this seems silly to have a growing pile of paper to look through - apart from which it is possible they could change.

The main thing is to check before using products to make items to sell, and if there is a clear angel policy allowing you to sell your cards or projects using products then do, or get permission first if stipulated, if there is any doubt - don't! (Some companies allow cards to be made for personal use only to be given away and not to be sold).

This is still a work in progress, I intend to add names of companies as I remember or come across them then look up the policy and add the link, which could take some time!

  1. Hi Cazzy,

Thought I'd add to your list. Despite docrafts having a clear angel policy in place regarding hallmark products, hallmark do not agree with it.

I've received an email today to remove 2 decorated Wellington notepads from my site. This isnt 2 designs with 30 available, but 2 in total!

And they're not even stamped, it's backing paper, die cuts and pearl accents!

So despite what the paper company says, the design owners may say something else entirely.

However in other news, helz cuppleditch has a very clear angel policy and will happily discuss with you personally how you can and cannot sell stuff.

  2. Thanks Sam, that is interesting! I wondered about that, can't see that Hallmark would be happy for anyone to set up in competition with them! Bother I just ordered some Forever Friends stamps in a sale, could be going back on sale when I get them! In lots of cases I now have permission to sell using stamped images. I think if the company is making stamps and not making cards they are more likely to say yes - with some exceptions! I will contact Hels, I have a couple of her stamps.

  3. Hallmark did ring me back after I left a voicemail. I explained it was created using docrafts products and she said she'd let my 2 notepads stand, complimented my site and professional attitude and was generally really lovely and very helpful.

I've just received a set of FF Kraft Notes products though, and like you, may be putting them for sale if using/selling is going to be problematic.

It's a good job its craft fayre season, there seem to be more relaxed policies for those.

On the upside, the silly person who thought reporting me to hallmark was a good idea. Well they've now got egg on their face as I now have the world's biggest greetings card manufacturer admiring my website and creations!

  4. Hello,
thank you for this post, it is really very interesting! and it such a complex argument.

I can't see anything written next to "chocolate baroque" and I can't see anything stated on their website about an "angel policy", can you help me understand how to deal with their stamps? can I sell a few cards made - among others - with their stamps?

thank you for your time and expertise!
    all the best

  5. Hi Melissa, you only need click on the Chocolate Baroque name to go to the page with their policy on it. I don't always make notes, only if I need to remind myself of a condition.
Angel Policies might come under Terms and Conditions (TOCs), Terms of Use or similar.
I just followed the link, and I think the information on being able to sell your cards that was on that page has been removed, not sure why, maybe it is being updated. I found another page on digital products, which require a licence to be downloaded, and have added that link.
    Have fun,
    Cazzy x

    1. Thank you Patricia, I hadn't checked recently and it wasn't there at the time. Maybe it was under review.

    2. Forgot to say I have updated it now, and added the link thanks. I was having an argument with people on the Kit and Clowder facebook page who said they were scanning their stamped images - I said it was against angel policies and got shouted down by a lot of people saying it wasn't. I know it is of course!

  8. Hi, I can't seem to find a policy for Inkadinkado? Thank you.

    1. Hi Patricia, Inkadinkado do not allow you to make anything with their stamps to sell - the only permission they would give me was to take orders using their products and make one off projects from that order. I have since sold most of my Inkadinkadoo stamps and replaced them with more tolerant makes of stamp. I hope that helps.

    2. Thank you for your reply. I only have one stamp set by them currently, but I won't purchase anymore. I can use it for cards I give as gifts.
